Amphorae
I use the amphora both as a metaphor for the human body and an interface with Ceramics history; more than any other vessel, the amphora is associated with the migration of an object and with the transportation of precious fluids. For instance, from 200 BCE – 100 CE, upwards of fifty million amphoras containing olive oil were shipped from what is now Spain and North Africa to Rome. There are parallels with the above history, both in terms of our migration from the African continent and with our current shipping and consumption of vast quantities of another type of oil - petroleum.
Amphores
Je me sers de l'amphore comme métaphore pour le corps humain ainsi que pour sa place particulière dans l'histoire de la Céramique. Plus que n'importe qu'elle autre vaisseau, l'amphore est associée avec la migration d'un objet et avec la transportation des fluides précieuses, telle que l'huile d'olive. Par exemple, entre les années 200 AEC et 100 EC, plus que cinquante millions d'amphores étaient expédiées de ce qui est maintenant l'Espagne et l'Afrique du Nord à Rome. Il y a des parallèles avec l'histoire ci-dessus, en termes de notre migration du continent Africain ainsi que l'expédition et la consommation courante d'une autre sorte d'huile: le pétrole.
